Chase the Dream

I recently accepted a new job. It’s everything I could have thought to ask for. I make a lot more money. The location is close to home. My boss is awesome. I love my coworker. I don’t have much to complain about.

But, my world hasn’t felt right since I started that job.

Money matters. You have to have it to provide for the basic fundamentals of life. If you have more of it, you can afford some luxuries. Everyone wants nice things. They make you comfortable. They can make you smile. And, let’s face it, it’s awesome to be able to buy the things you want.

But, of course, money isn’t everything. That’s the age-old adage, is it not? I believe that to be true. I’ve never been highly motivated by money. I’m driven by joy and peace. I want meaning and purpose.

I thought I was chasing meaning and purpose, but I swear the universe is sending me a message that I need to reevaluate things. Am I chasing the dream or the fortune?

I’m working more than I ever have. I missed my son’s orientation at school for the first time ever. His grandma took him. Thank God for her. She is my angel, always helping me whenever I need her.

I’m not reading. My eyes are too tired in the evenings to concentrate on small print. It truly makes me sad. Before my eyes got so bad, I would read most days. I love it. It’s my escape from the world.

I also haven’t been writing. I’m too tired by the time I get home . I walk out of the office feeling like I’ve been run over by a truck. I think I must stay very tense all day to do that to myself.  The fatigue is starting to take a toll. I’m cranky, and I don’t like it. That’s not me.

Writing is my dream. It’s my therapy. Without it, I won’t feel “normal.” I have to get back to it.

Authors, have you had similar experiences when you don’t have time to write? Or readers, do you struggle to find time to read? How do you deal with it? Can’t we change the work week to four days? Every Friday can be designated as national book days! 🙂

Happy reading and writing, my friends! Don’t forget to make time for the dream!
